Wishing on a star

The song, “Wishing on a star” by The Cover Girls is one of my favorite songs. I love their version of that song of all the other versions made although I love the original version by Rose Royce the most. Of course, original is still the best. But I love how The Cover Girls sang this song with full of emotions. For some reasons this song gives the chills.

Jars of Clay

Jars of Clay is one of my favorite Christian bands. The band's name is derived from the New International Version's translation of 2 Corinthians 4:7:
“ But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us"

Flood

Rain, rain on my face
It hasn't stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud

[Chorus:]

But if I can't swim after forty days
and my mind is crushed by the thrashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need you to hold me
Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again

Downpour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean, I'm losing control
Dark sky all around
I can't feel my feet touching the ground

[Chorus]

Calm the storms that drench my eyes
Dry the streams still flowing
Cast down all the waves of sin
And guilt that overthrow me

[Chorus]

Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need you to hold me
Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again

I like Disney movies and cartoons since I was a kid. Every time I see and watch any Disney cartoon, I always feel nostalgic for my childhood years. Actually, my favorite Disney cartoons are the classic ones but I like all Disney movies and TV shows. My latest favorite Disney movie was “Wall.E.

I may sound like a kid but I still enjoy cartoons very much. In fact, my husband is into it and he has some collection of Disney cartoons and movies. He loves the “Fantasia” soundtrack. I would like to surprise him on his birthday. So, I looked up Disney Movie Club and I was so glad that they have it. I should join in Disney movie club to get more discounts and be able to play games, watch short video clips, download some games and rent DVD movies. I can get DVD for $1.99 for first time purchase with free shipping. Furthermore purchase an additional DVD at a 25% discount and a second DVD at 50% off club prices. I can’t wait to be a member.

Bossa Nova

Right now, I am enjoying the swaying stream of a Bossa Nova music. It is a Brazilian type of music. I like Brazilian music despite I can't understand nor speak Portuguese. I just don't care about the lyrics when it comes to boss nova music, I really love the beat and the harmony. There are many boss nova songs translated in English so that works out with me (haha). The bossa nova style of music was popularized by the famous musicians Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1950’s. Some of you may have heard about them. The first time I heard the song called " The from Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto. I thought it was an Italian song. At that time, I just couldn't identify what it was. I didn't know any Portuguese and boss nova back then.

The bossa nova music derives from samba beat and is highly influenced by jazz. It is more commonly played on guitar and piano and sometimes with accompaniments of orchestra. And its rhythm always sways. The most popular boss nova was "The of Ipanema" which was sung by Astrud Gilberto and performed by the famous Antonio Carlos Jobim. It was also sung by Peggy Lee, which the title was changed to "The boy from Ipanema". I also like the song "Desafinado" which means "slightly out of tune" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and also popularized by Frank Sinatra in his own English version.

Indeed Bossa nova speaks with love and a bohemian life. Until now, it is still popular around the world. Here is one of the bossa nova music that I love. It is called "So nice" by Bebel Gilberto.

Trapped in the Drive-thru

Check out the video above. It is Weird Al Yankovic "Trapped in the Drive-thru". It is a parody of R. Kelly's Trapped in the closet. I thought Weird Al's version is way better than R. Kelly's which is ridiculous. Enjoy the video. And listen carefully to the lyrics. It is very hilarious!

The Dark Knight

We watched Batman, "The Dark Knight" last Saturday. The AMC theater was packed. I was surprised to see a lot of people. Duh! This movie is popular. It was very good although, I liked the first one better. There are many plots and twists in this movie, so, if you are planning on watching it-- pay attention to it. The movie was kinda complicated near the end (I wish they make things complicated in this movie). It is a type of a movie where you have to watch it twice to better understand the story. Overall, two up for this movie.

Wave by Antonio Carlos Jobim

I really love Bossa Nova music. Bossa nova is a style of Brazilian music most popularized by Antônio Carlos Jobim and and João Gilberto. The musical style progressed from samba but is more compounded harmonically but less percussive. Historians and fans often debated on the influence of bossa nova as cool jazz and cool sensibility. I really loved Carlos Jobim's wave. Take a moment to listen to video here.

Chuck Mangione

I really love the music, "Feel so good" by Chuck Mangione. Today, as I was driving on the way home from Walmart. I played that song and it reminds me to post it here on my blog. Iron Man

We watched Iron Man today. I was not disappointed at all. The movie was better than I thought. Robert Downey, Jr. really portrayed his character as Iron man very well. I like the actors and actresses in the movie. I grew up reading "Iron Man" comics. My father has a big collection of Marvel comics, Dc comics and more. I used to read those comics during my youngster years. My favorite comic at that time was Tarzan.

Miyasaki's Studio Ghibli

Miyasaki's Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation film studio. The name Ghibli is derived from the nickname the Italians used for their Saharan scouting planes in the Second World War. Founded in 1985, it is lead by the famous director Hayao Miyazaki with his colleague and mentor Isao Takahata, and the studio's executive managing director and long-time producer Toshio Suzuki. I really like their animation. They always have unique stories. I love "My Neighbor Totoro", "Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle", etc. The Grave of Fireflies made me cry the whole time when I watched it. It is a short movie I have ever seen. It talks about how the japanese civilian were affected during the World War II.
